Stirling Castle
Stirling Castle sits atop a high hill overlooking fields as far as the eye can see as well as the River Forth. Most of the current castle buildings date to the 15th or 16th century. Much history has happened here. The river, by the castle, is where William Wallace, of Braveheart fame, defeated the English. The actual history of what happens at the battle seems much more interesting than the movie's retelling! Many other battles have been fought here for the castle and as a royal palace Scottish kings have been crowned here as well.
