Scottish Highlands
The big downside of winter in Scotland is the limited amount of daylight, currently at slightly more than 7 hours a day. I ended up driving from the Trossachs to Inverness, arriving about an hour after sunset. I went via an indirect route via the Bridge of Balgie and Rannoch Station to see some of the scenery. Much of the drive was on narrow, single track (lane) roads though all were paved.
The only time I got out of the car and walked a bit was when I drove by a dam. I walked across it to the other side where I discovered it was incredibly windy, it was tough to even walk forwards against the wind! Later on, I experienced something similar at the edge of a loch with the wind whipping up the water into the air. There were definitely places where I wanted to get out and walk around a bit but there clearly wasn't enough time!
Other notable sights included multiple rainbows though mostly rather faint. And bits of snow on the ground atop many of the mountains. Overall, very moody scenery! And so many sheep! It reminds me quite a bit of New Zealand in the winter!
