Lava Butte, Newberry National Volcanic Monument
Near the town of Bend lies the Lava Butte, part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This feature was formed when lava erupted from the ground, building up a large cinder cone. Around 7000 years ago, it erupted, creating the landscape that we now see today.
A road, accessible by shuttle bus or foot, leads to the top. There is a short trail that goes around the slightly lopsided crater as well as a fire lookout station up top. It also offers great views of the surrounding area!
