In the shadow of Mt. Bierstadt, one of Colorado's 58 14ers, is Guanella Pass. This high altitude pass, at 11,670 feet, is the trailhead for Mt. Bierstadt. The first mile or so of the trail is a very easy hike, going past a small lake with a small stream crossing later on. The scenery is colorful with greens and yellows and mountains all around.

We arrived to a cool, overcast morning. It drizzled a bit as we started our hike but luckily it did not rain any further. The sky eventually started to clear and the sun peeked out between the clouds. A nice and easy high altitude walk!
