Nagoya Castle
Nagoya Castle is a replica of the original which was destroyed during the war. The original was the first castle in Japan to be designated as a National Treasure. While on the outside the replica looks similar to the original wooden castles of Japan, the interior is completely different. It is a modern structure with elevators and normal stairwells. It completely lacks the charm and authenticity of the originals.
There is also a replica of a palace which once stood on the castle grounds, also destroyed during the war. Part of the replica was recently renovated with other structures being renovated as well. Having been to many original historic structures, the replica just looks too new and perfect. And its the only historic structure where you can't wear a backpack while walking around inside. Pretty much every actual historic structure has no issues while this one is worried about the replica structure being damaged. Kind of silly!
Overall, the castle is nice from the outside but Japan has ample original buildings to see! Nagoya Castle does also have a mascot like Hikone Castle but Hikone's Hikonyan is way more kawaii!!!
