Midagahara, Alpine Route
The first snow covered stop along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in the Japanese Alps when crossing from the west is Midagahara at approximately 1900 meters in elevation. It was somewhat cloudy when I arrived with only some of the surrounding scenery visible. Unfortunately, there was only a very limited area that was open for walking around. I contemplated going off into the distance a bit but I thought that might cause some consternation with the Japanese! One trail that was open was to the rim of the Tateyama Caldera, just a short hike up a steep hill. Despite the clouds, a nice view!
